I’m Vinay Thakorlal, the creator of Millennial In Chief.
My mission is to help as many people as possible to reach their full potential in the professional workspace and to level-up their leadership skills to get noticed and drive big results.
I started this blog for three reasons. The first reason is personal, so I could practice articulating and describing processes that have helped me grow as a person and in my career.
The second reason is for you, so I could share my learnings and acquired resources that may help in your journey of becoming a great millennial leader.
The third reason is to build a community by sharing our own unique generational and leadership experiences, and ultimately, all learn from each other.
There is a huge workforce shift underway: millennials are officially the largest generation currently in the U.S. workforce. As our participation in the workforce grows, a greater number of millennials are also seeking and reaching leadership positions in their chosen fields.
Millennials are seeking leaders to be more than just “managers”.
Millennials and Gen-Zer’s new to the workforce are overwhelmingly looking for leaders who value autonomy, collaboration, equity, psychological safety, empowerment, authority to make important decisions, professional development, and so much more.
Unfortunately for most millennials, leadership thus far has been modeled to be top-down by baby boomers, which just won’t work in this new workforce.
Over the last 10 years, I have spent time within the heavy construction and healthcare industries as a consultant, product manager, and project manager. In order to be successful in these roles, I have consistently needed to demonstrate two important traits: showing up as a learner and being a strong leader.
As a result of being both a learner and leader, I have helped companies save millions of dollars by leading teams through change and process improvement, developed personalized trainings on solving complex problems, and coached industry executives to become better people leaders.
Being a strong leader in today’s changing workforce will drive better results, enable high-performing teams, and ultimately open you up to opportunities that can give you amazing life experiences. It’s how my journey has led me to currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii!
